Pulmonary Perfusion Imaging with Tc-99m MAA :  2 CEU

This tutorial gives an overview on pulmonary perfusion imaging with Tc-99m MAA

Objectives: Pulmonary Perfusion Imaging with Tc-99m MAA

Topics to be Covered:

  1. Overview of topic
  2. Indications for which study is performed
  3. Radiopharmaceutical, method of preparation, radionuclide used, quality control procedures, prescribed dose, route of administration, and clinical pharmacology
  4. Normal distribution of the drug
  5. Patient preparation
  6. Imaging protocols and parameters, instrumentation used
  7. Adverse reactions of the drug
  8. Internal radiation dosimetry

After completion of this tutorial, one should be able to:

  1. List several indications for performing a pulmonary perfusion scan
  2. Identify the radiopharmaceutical used, the route of administration, the typical prescribed dose, the clinical pharmacology, and parameters for injecting the right number of particles in a particular patient
  3. Describe the radiolabeling procedure and the method of assessing quality control.
  4. Describe imaging protocols and acquisition parameters for pulmonary perfusion scans, especially in diagnosis of pulmonary embolism, and explain how a Xe-133 ventilation complements the perfusion scan clinically.
  5. Identify normal and abnormal images
  6. Give a brief summary of internal radiation dosimetry following intravenous administration of Tc-MAA
